I know you've all been waiting far too long, but it is finally here! Time to see which game got what award.
Best Graphics (2011):
In 4th place, we have...Fake Guide!
Because let's face it, there wasn't much. A guy, some robots, toxic waste, and a green wall. That was it through most of the game. And when compared side by side to others, the one in last place is pretty clear.
In 3rd place, we have...Galactic Infection Aliens!
Many sprites used in this game came directly from the first Galactic Infection, which had a low graphics rating, so that kinda carried over to this game as well.
In 2nd Place, we have...Zombie Scream!
If I were a better artist, this could have turned out really nice looking. But I'm not that good of an artist, so it got to where it was. I gotta say though, it's a huge improvement from how I was originally going to design the zombies and characters. They were originally going to be stick figures...no lie.
And in 1st place, we have...Monsters!
Why this one comes out on top is pretty obvious. The tiles, backgrounds, and pretty much anything that glows ended up looking very nice. 'Course, that's probably due to the fact that all I did was enemies and characters, portals, and diamonds. Everything else was done by other talented individuals. I especially like the background images, which is largely why this game comes out on top in this category.
Best Music and Sound (2011):
In 4th place, we have...Galactic Infection Aliens!
The music isn't original. It was borrowed from games made before. The only reason I could do this was simply because this game could be hosted on a free-to-play website (Yoyogames Sandbox) that didn't say anything when it comes to legality of games. It is a website where you can throw in what you want (sprites, music, etc.). The purpose was to show off the games you made in your spare time.
In 3rd place, we have...Fake Guide!
Because there really wasn't much music. However, there was voice acting, a first for a game that I've made, so +1 for that.
In 2nd place, we have...Monsters!
Good tracks, no complaints from me, but...it didn't quite compare to Zombie Scream.
And in 1st place, we have...Zombie Scream!
Reason? It is a horror game, and thus it needs a horror atmosphere. The music really helped create that atmosphere. I'm just amazed by this game's soundtrack.
Best Story (2011):
In 4th place, we have...Galactic Infection Aliens!
I feel all the stories this year were good, but this was one of the more generic stories...kinda. I mean, how often do you play as the aliens and destroy the humans? Still, it didn't have a mind-blowing story.
In 3rd place, we have...Monsters!
Granted, it's not really over yet. There's still plenty of episodes to come. At the moment though, the story isn't spell-binding, mainly because it hasn't gotten into the thick of things yet. Trust me, it'll get better.
In 2nd place, we have...Fake Guide!
A story involving betrayal is always interesting. *SPOILER ALERT* All this time, you think Winston is helping you escape, only to find out later that he was just leading you into a room where there was a button. And once you pressed that button, the toxic waste would get out into the outside and contaminate everything! That evil Winston!
And in 1st place, we have...Zombie Scream!
Well, a mystery story is more often than not a good story. I think Zombie Scream told the story of "man vs zombie" in an entirely different way and still worked out. It was a lot more than just "survive-the-zombie-apocalypse" scenario.
Best Gameplay (2011):
In 4th place, we have...Fake Guide!
This could have possibly made it higher on the list, but what sets it back is some glitches and how short it is. It was made with a time limitation of 72 hours, so I couldn't sit around and fine tune this for a couple weeks before releasing it.
In 3rd place, we have...Zombie Scream!
It might have had a complex story, but it did not have complex gameplay. It was very simple. Run forward, shoot some zombies, run some more. That was it.
In 2nd place, we have...Monsters!
An RPG is always fairly complex, not only to play but to make. You have to watch things constantly, such as your health, to stay alive in games like these.
And in 1st place, we have...Galactic Infection Aliens!
I think a lot of the victory comes from the multi-player aspect of the game. Aliens was the first game I made to feature some from of local multi-player. Perhaps the next Galactic Infection will have online multi-player...
Best Overall (2011):
Now, I won't talk about these much. Reasons for games being placed where they were place was, in a way, explained earlier.
In 4th place, we have...Fake Guide!
In 3rd place, we have...Galactic Infection Aliens!
In 2nd place, we have...Monsters!
And in 1st place, we have...Zombie Scream!
And there you have it! Come back soon for the "Best of All Time" part of The_Puzzle awards!
